Trilogy

In a world of quickly shifting attention, we are excited to focus on a single composer in each ‘Trilogy’ program, offering audiences the opportunity to savor the unique qualities of each artistic voice.

Trilogy 1: ROBERT SCHUMANN

Schumann’s quartets were given as a birthday present to his beloved wife and pianist Clara whose key, C major, is the unifying link of this harmonically conceived cycle.

String Quartet No. 2 in F major, Op. 41, No. 2 (1842)

--intermission--

String Quartet No. 3 in A major, Op. 41, No. 3 (1842)

Trilogy 2: LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN

With the ‘Razumovsky’ Quartets, Beethoven makes a leap into uncharted territory, ‘symphonizing’ the quartet and expanding the genre to epic proportions, all the while expressing the whole range of human experience.

String Quartet No. 8 in E minor, Op. 59, No. 2 (1806)
